KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi stormed into the Pakistan Super League 2026 final after crushing Islamabad United by 70 runs in the Qualifier at National Bank Stadium on April 28.

Chasing a daunting target of 222, Islamabad United were bowled out for 151 in 18.4 overs, falling well short despite a steady run rate early in the innings. The required rate climbed rapidly, eventually reaching an unmanageable level as wickets kept tumbling under pressure.

Peshawar Zalmi’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Mohammad Basit emerging as a key contributor. The left-arm pacer picked up 2 wickets for just 19 runs in 3.4 overs, maintaining tight control and breaking crucial partnerships. Khurram Shahzad also chipped in with a wicket, though he proved expensive, conceding 38 runs in his three overs.

Islamabad’s batting lineup failed to build momentum after a shaky start. Regular wickets disrupted any hopes of a comeback, with the side losing all ten wickets before completing their allotted overs. Salman Mirza was among the last to fall, scoring a modest 5 runs off 7 balls.

Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi posted an imposing total of 221 for 7, setting the tone for the match with an aggressive batting display. Their top order capitalised on favorable batting conditions, putting pressure on Islamabad’s bowlers from the outset.

The high-scoring contest highlighted Zalmi’s dominance in all departments, as they combined explosive batting with effective bowling to outclass their opponents. The victory secures them a direct spot in the PSL 2026 final, while Islamabad United will now get another chance through the eliminator route.

Cricket analysts noted that the match underlined the importance of handling pressure in knockout games, with Zalmi executing their plans more effectively. The result also reflects their consistent performance throughout the tournament.

With this emphatic win, Peshawar Zalmi have emerged as strong contenders for the title, carrying momentum into the final. Meanwhile, Islamabad United will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for their must-win eliminator clash to keep their championship hopes alive.
