ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) has rescheduled the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) from August 16 to September 20, 2026, in a decision taken on the directions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The announcement was made through a public notice issued by the Registrar PM&DC, bearing reference number PF-1-C-PM&DC/Notification/2026/1229 and dated August 6, 2026.
According to the notice, the council informed “all candidates, parents, educational institutions and other stakeholders” that the test, which was originally slated for August 16, has now been pushed back by more than a month. The notice states that the decision “has been taken in the best public interest,” though it does not specify the exact reasons behind the postponement.

PM&DC clarified that all other terms, conditions and examination arrangements will remain unchanged unless notified otherwise, and advised candidates to keep checking the council’s official website and communication channels for further updates.
The council also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of all stakeholders and regretted any inconvenience caused by the last-minute change, which comes just ten days before the previously announced test date.
The notice has been circulated to key stakeholders including vice chancellors of all admitting universities, provincial and regional health departments, the Head of PM&DC’s Exam and IT Departments, all MDCAT aspirants, and staff of the Secretary of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination (NHSR&C) and the PM&DC President.
MDCAT is the mandatory entry test for admission to public and private medical and dental colleges across Pakistan, and its scheduling directly affects the academic calendar for thousands of aspiring medical students nationwide. With the new date set for September 20, candidates now have an additional five weeks to prepare, though the shift is also likely to have knock-on effects on the subsequent admission and merit-list timelines.
