ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Customs has intensified its anti-smuggling campaign nationwide, seizing illegal goods worth Rs. 3.718 billion over the past two weeks as part of a coordinated crackdown launched under directives from the federal government and the Federal Board of Revenue.
According to the Office of the Chief Collector Customs (Enforcement), Islamabad, the seizures were carried out by nine Customs Enforcement Collectorates across the country.
Gadani reported the highest recoveries worth Rs. 853 million, followed by Sargodha with Rs. 700 million and Quetta with Rs. 693 million in confiscated goods.
In one of the largest operations, Customs Enforcement officials in Gadani intercepted six fishing boats carrying 201,000 litres of smuggled Iranian-origin high-speed diesel. Authorities later recovered an additional 158,000 litres from coastal dumping sites, bringing the total value of the case to approximately Rs. 357 million.
Separately, Customs Enforcement in Multan seized goods worth Rs. 205 million after intercepting a vehicle transporting 3,900 kilograms of acetate tow, a key raw material used in cigarette filter production.
In another operation in Bhakkar, officials confiscated contraband worth Rs. 96 million that had been concealed beneath a shipment of onions inside a cargo truck.
