LAHORE: Punjab authorities have decided to suspend Metro Bus, Electric Bus and Speedo Bus services on the 9th and 10th of Muharram due to heightened security concerns during Ashura processions and gatherings.
According to the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA), all Metro Bus, Electric Bus and Speedo services in Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi will remain closed on both days to facilitate security arrangements and ensure public safety.
Officials said the temporary suspension is part of a broader security plan aimed at preventing any untoward incidents during the religious observances. Commuters have been advised to make alternate travel arrangements during the closure period.
Meanwhile, Punjab Police have finalized extensive security measures across the province for Muharram. Thousands of police personnel, along with special units and law enforcement agencies, will be deployed to safeguard processions, majalis and other religious events.
Authorities said surveillance systems, monitoring teams and emergency response units will remain active throughout the province, while strict checking and security protocols will be enforced at sensitive locations.
The provincial government has urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and follow security guidelines to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram.
