LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced summer vacations for schools across the province, with educational institutions set to close from May 22 amid rising temperatures and heatwave concerns.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said the summer break for all public and private schools would begin on Friday, May 22. He added that schools would reopen on August 24 after more than three months of holidays.

The decision was taken in view of the intense heat and to ensure the health and safety of students and teachers during the peak summer season.
The Punjab government had earlier also ordered the evacuation of schools operating in dangerous buildings to prevent any untoward incidents.
Parents and education circles have welcomed the decision, saying the extended summer break would provide relief to students during the extreme weather conditions across the province.
