MDCAT 2026 on August 16; Registration opens June 22

ISLAMABAD:  The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has announced that the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) 2026 will be conducted nationwide on Sunday, August 16, 2026, for admissions to MBBS and BDS programmes across the country.

According to a public notice issued by the council, the examination will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pakistan Standard Time (PST) and will be conducted through designated admitting universities in all provinces and regions.

The test will be administered by the following institutions: the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore for Punjab, Sukkur IBA University for Sindh, Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences Quetta for Balochistan, and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) Islamabad for Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the international test centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

PM&DC said online registration with the normal fee will commence on June 22, 2026, and continue until July 8, 2026. Candidates will be able to register with a late fee until July 13, 2026.

The registration fee for test centres in Pakistan has been fixed at Rs9,000, while late registration will cost Rs13,000. For the international test centre in Riyadh, the registration fee is Rs45,000, increasing to Rs55,000 for late registration. All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

The MDCAT 2026 will be a paper-based examination conducted in English and will consist of 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with no negative marking. The distribution of questions includes 81 from Biology, 45 from Chemistry, 36 from Physics, nine from English, and nine from Logical Reasoning.

According to the council, 15 percent of the questions will be easy, 70 percent moderate, and 15 percent difficult.

The test will be held in multiple cities across Pakistan, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Quetta, Islamabad, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Rawalakot, and Gilgit, among others, depending on the number of applicants.

PM&DC clarified that candidates will only be allowed to appear in the MDCAT within their respective province or region of domicile. However, candidates holding Sindh domicile may also opt for Islamabad as their test centre through the relevant university. Once selected, the test centre cannot be changed.

The MDCAT syllabus and curriculum are available on the PM&DC website, while registrations can be completed through the official MDCAT portal. The council advised applicants to submit complete applications, warning that incomplete submissions will not be accepted.

PM&DC further noted that it reserves the right to revise the schedule if necessary. The MDCAT remains a mandatory requirement for admission to medical and dental colleges across Pakistan.
