ISLAMABAD: Easter Celebrations were held in major cities including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi as churches filled with worshippers from early morning. Easter, one of the most significant events in Christianity, commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and symbolizes hope, renewal, and spiritual rebirth.

Special services were organized in churches under tight security arrangements. Authorities deployed additional police personnel around places of worship to ensure safety during the gatherings. In Lahore, large congregations attended services at historic churches, while similar scenes were witnessed in Karachi and the federal capital.

According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Christians make up around 1.6% of Pakistan’s population, forming one of the largest minority communities in the country. Easter and Christmas remain key religious occasions, drawing both religious observance and community interaction.

Church leaders urged followers to reflect on values of sacrifice, compassion, and unity. Sermons focused on peace and coexistence in a country marked by diverse religious identities. Community leaders also highlighted the importance of tolerance and mutual respect amid evolving social challenges.

Families celebrated the occasion with traditional meals, exchange of gifts, and gatherings. Children participated in Easter egg activities, a global tradition symbolizing new life. Markets in urban centers reported increased sales of confectionery and decorative items in the days leading up to Easter.

Pakistan has seen gradual improvements in minority rights awareness over recent years. Government initiatives and judicial interventions have aimed to protect minority places of worship and promote inclusion. However, advocacy groups continue to call for stronger implementation of laws and equal opportunities in education and employment.

Security remains a central concern during religious events. The Ministry of Interior typically coordinates with provincial governments to ensure comprehensive security plans. Officials said this year’s arrangements were enhanced in light of past incidents and regional security dynamics.

Economic pressures have also shaped this year’s celebrations. Rising inflation has affected household spending across Pakistan, as noted in recent reports by the State Bank of Pakistan. Despite this, community participation remained strong, reflecting the cultural and religious significance of the occasion.

Easter in Pakistan also highlights the broader role of minority communities in national development. Christian institutions have historically contributed to education and healthcare sectors, operating schools and hospitals across the البلاد.

As the country navigates economic and political challenges, religious festivals such as Easter provide moments of unity and reflection. Leaders across faiths have emphasized dialogue and cooperation as essential for long-term stability.

With Easter concluding, attention now shifts to upcoming religious and cultural events, as Pakistan continues efforts to balance diversity, security, and social cohesion in a changing regional landscape.
