Cambridge confirms exam paper leaks in Pakistan

Now Assessed Grades announced for affected A-Level students

BeNewz Report

ISLAMABAD: Cambridge International Education has issued a major update following the reported leakage and postponement of several A-Level and AS-Level examination papers in Pakistan, raising serious concerns within academic circles.

According to official emails sent to schools, the organization has now confirmed that the Computer Science examination paper was also accessed and circulated before the scheduled time. Earlier, only Mathematics papers had been reported as compromised.

The institution has decided that the Computer Science paper, along with certain Mathematics papers conducted on 12 May, will not be retaken. Instead, students affected by these papers will be awarded Assessed Grades, which will be determined on the basis of their performance in other completed components.

In addition, the Mathematics paper postponed on 15 May due to security concerns has been rescheduled and will now be held on 8 June 2026. Cambridge also noted that precautionary arrangements had already been implemented for Mathematics Paper 32 and Paper 52 in response to earlier irregularities.

Senior assessment experts within Cambridge International Education have concluded that Assessed Grades are the most appropriate solution where examination integrity has been compromised or where conducting a fair retest is not feasible.

The organization further stated that strict disciplinary action may be taken against individuals found responsible for the unauthorized sharing or misuse of examination material. It also emphasized that such security breaches are not confined to any single country or examination center, describing them as part of a wider global challenge facing modern assessment systems.

Education analysts say the developments have created uncertainty for affected students. However, they also note that the decision to award Assessed Grades is intended to reduce academic disruption and ensure fairness under compromised examination conditions.
