LAHORE: Islamabad United defeated Quetta Gladiators by eight wickets in the ninth match of the Pakistan Super League on Thursday, with captain Shadab Khan delivering a match-winning display.
Chasing a target of 184, Islamabad United reached 189 for 2 in 18.2 overs, finishing the game with 10 balls to spare. Shadab Khan anchored the innings with an unbeaten 69 off 39 balls, ensuring a controlled and confident chase.
Earlier, Quetta Gladiators posted 183 for 5 in their 20 overs, putting up a competitive total. However, their bowling attack failed to defend the score against a strong Islamabad batting lineup.

Shadab also made a key impact with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 23 runs in his four overs. His all-round contribution earned him the Player of the Match award, while Cricinfo also named him the game’s most valuable player.
All-rounders have increasingly shaped outcomes in T20 cricket, where their dual role provides balance and flexibility. In recent Pakistan Super League seasons, such performances have frequently influenced match results, reflecting evolving team strategies.
Islamabad United’s win strengthens their position in the tournament standings, as teams compete intensely for playoff spots. The margin of victory also highlights their depth in both batting and bowling departments.
Since its launch in 2016, the Pakistan Super League has grown into a globally recognized T20 competition, attracting international talent and boosting Pakistan’s cricket ecosystem. The league continues to play a key role in developing local players and reviving top-level cricket in the country.
With momentum on their side, Islamabad United now look well-placed in the title race, while Quetta Gladiators may need to reassess their bowling strategy in upcoming fixtures to stay competitive in the Pakistan Super League.
