COLUMBO: Pakistan stormed into the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup with a commanding 102-run victory over Namibia in the 35th match of the tournament played in Colombo. The emphatic win not only showcased Pakistan’s batting firepower but also highlighted their dominance with the ball, as they bundled out Namibia for just 97 runs.

After winning the toss, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha opted to bat first, a decision that proved fruitful. The Green Shirts posted an imposing total of 199 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs, setting Namibia a daunting target of 200 runs.

The highlight of Pakistan’s innings was a magnificent unbeaten century by Sahibzada Farhan. The right-hander played a breathtaking knock of 100 runs off just 58 balls, decorated with 11 fours and 4 sixes. It was the second century of the ongoing World Cup and came at a crucial time for Pakistan. Farhan anchored the innings brilliantly and ensured his side finished strongly.

Among the other contributors, Saim Ayub scored 14 runs, while captain Salman Ali Agha added a steady 38. Khawaja Nafay managed 5 runs, but Shadab Khan provided late fireworks with an unbeaten 36 off 22 deliveries, accelerating the scoring in the final overs and helping Pakistan reach a formidable total.

In response, Namibia’s batting lineup struggled against Pakistan’s disciplined and aggressive bowling attack. Chasing 200, Namibia never looked comfortable and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The entire team was bowled out for just 97 runs in 17.3 overs, falling well short of the target.

Usman Tariq was the standout performer with the ball, claiming four wickets and dismantling Namibia’s middle order. Shadab Khan also impressed, picking up three wickets to complement his all-round performance. Mohammad Nawaz and Salman Mirza chipped in with one wicket each, ensuring there was no respite for the Namibian batters.

With this comprehensive win, Pakistan confirmed their qualification for the Super Eight stage, where they will face strong opposition. Pakistan are scheduled to take on New Zealand on February 21, England on February 24, and Sri Lanka on February 28 in the next round. These matches will be crucial as Pakistan aim to secure a spot in the semifinals.

Speaking at the toss, captain Salman Ali Agha expressed confidence in his team’s preparation and mindset. He said there was no pressure on the side and that they were fully prepared for the contest. He also mentioned that the team had performed well in their previous match against the USA, which boosted their confidence going into this fixture.

For this match, Pakistan made two changes to their lineup. Shaheen Afridi and Abrar Ahmed were rested, with Salman Mirza and Khawaja Nafay coming into the playing eleven.

Sahibzada Farhan was deservedly named Player of the Match for his outstanding century. He has now scored a total of 220 runs in four innings during the group stage, emerging as one of Pakistan’s key performers in the tournament.

With momentum on their side, Pakistan now head into the Super Eight stage with renewed confidence and high expectations.
