Punjab boards announce revised exam schedule for matric & intermediate

Matric exams reschedule to March 27 due to Ramadan

Abdullah Zahid

LAHORE: All nine educational boards in Punjab have released the revised schedule for the annual and supplementary examinations of Matric (SSC) and Intermediate (HSSC) for the year 2026. The key change involves postponing the Matric annual examinations to accommodate the holy month of Ramadan, ensuring students can focus on their religious observances without added academic pressure.

According to the official notification issued by the Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen, the Matric (Class 9 and 10) annual examinations, originally scheduled to begin on March 3, 2026, will now commence on March 27, 2026. The exams are expected to continue until late April, with results announced on August 6, 2026.

The Intermediate (First Year and Second Year) annual examinations will start as planned on May 20, 2026, and conclude in the following weeks. Results for these exams will be declared on September 23, 2026. Additionally, Class 9 results will be announced on September 2, 2026, while First Year (Part-I) results are scheduled for August 22, 2026.

For supplementary examinations, the revised dates are as follows:

  • Matric supplementary exams: Starting October 6, 2026, with results on December 8, 2026.
  • Intermediate supplementary exams: Starting November 3, 2026, with results on January 12, 2027.

These revisions were finalized through a joint consultative meeting of the Punjab Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) and the chairpersons of the nine boards: Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, and Sahiwal. The boards emphasized that the postponement of Matric exams is a deliberate measure taken in respect of Ramadan, allowing students to balance their fasting, prayers, and studies more comfortably.

Board officials have appealed to students, parents, and teachers to strictly follow the official schedule and avoid falling for rumors or unofficial announcements. Detailed date sheets, roll number slips, and other relevant information will be made available on the respective boards’ official websites in due course.

Education experts and parents have welcomed the decision, noting that scheduling major board exams during Ramadan often leads to fatigue, reduced concentration, and added stress for fasting students. The new timeline is seen as a student-friendly step that prioritizes well-being while maintaining the academic calendar.

Students are strongly advised to begin their preparation immediately to ensure they are fully ready for the revised examination dates. With millions of candidates appearing for Matric and Intermediate exams across Punjab every year, this schedule holds immense importance for students, families, and educational institutions alike.

The boards have reiterated their commitment to fair, transparent, and timely conduct of examinations, urging all stakeholders to stay updated through official channels only.
