LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced an impressive and highly encouraging response to the tender process for the sale of two new franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), said an official statement of the PCB.
A total of 12 parties submitted formal bids by the deadline, underscoring the league’s rising global stature and commercial viability. The bidders represent diverse regions across five continents, including prominent interest from the United States, Australia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Pakistan itself. This widespread participation highlights the PSL’s growing international appeal, attracting investors from established cricketing nations as well as emerging markets.
PCB officials expressed satisfaction with the robust response, describing it as a testament to the league’s success since its inception in 2016. The PSL has rapidly evolved into one of the most watched and lucrative T20 leagues worldwide, boasting high-profile international stars, sold-out stadiums, and substantial broadcasting deals.
According to the PCB statement, the results of the initial bidding phase will be revealed on December 27, 2025. Successful bidders who meet the technical qualifications will advance to the next stage, where they will have the opportunity to acquire the two new teams through an open and competitive auction process.
This crucial final stage is scheduled for January 8, 2026, at the Islamabad Convention Centre. The PCB has emphasized its commitment to conducting the entire process with complete transparency and in accordance with international best practices. This approach aims to ensure fairness, maximize value, and support the sustainable growth of the PSL.
The addition of two new franchises is expected to expand the league to eight teams, enhancing competition and providing more opportunities for Pakistani cricketers while boosting revenue streams through increased sponsorships, broadcasting rights, and fan engagement.
Industry experts believe the strong international interest could significantly elevate the PSL’s profile, potentially attracting even bigger global stars and investment in the coming seasons. The league’s previous expansions and successful player drafts have already contributed to its reputation as a premier T20 competition.
The PCB’s proactive steps in franchise expansion align with its broader vision to strengthen domestic cricket infrastructure and promote the sport across the country. As the process moves forward, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the announcement of the new team owners and the fresh dynamics they will bring to Pakistan’s flagship T20 extravaganza.
