RAWALPINDI: Pakistan face Sri Lanka in a must-win contest today in Rawalpindi as the third match of the Pakistan T20 Tri-Series gets underway at 6:00 PM. The game is expected to shape the points table significantly, with Pakistan currently placed second and Sri Lanka at the bottom after one defeat.
The match has gained importance as both sides look to secure momentum ahead of the series’ mid-stage. Pakistan started the tournament with a solid win and sit on two points with a net run rate of 0.460. Sri Lanka, however, lost their opening match and hold zero points with a net run rate of –3.350, leaving them under pressure to register their first victory.
The toss may play a key part as Rawalpindi’s surface historically favors teams batting first under lights, although conditions can shift quickly due to evening dew. Analysts expect both captains to consider batting first to set a competitive total.
Pakistan will rely on their strong top order and in-form bowlers, who delivered a disciplined performance in their opening game. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will look to recover through stronger middle-order resilience and improved powerplay control after a disappointing start in the tournament.
With the tri-series format allowing little margin for error, today’s match is set to determine early control of the standings as fans expect a high-intensity contest under Rawalpindi’s floodlights.
