Snowfall continues in Kaghan, Naran & Babusar Top; Rain hits twin cities

BeNewz Report

The scenic valleys of Kaghan, Naran, and Babusar Top are experiencing continuous snowfall, turning the region into a winter landscape and bringing a sharp drop in temperature. According to the district administration, up to 6 inches of snow has been recorded so far at Babusar Top, prompting the closure of Naran–Jhal Khad Road and the Babusar Top route for all types of traffic.

Officials said the Babusar Top Road has been closed from both the Mansehra and Gilgit sides due to heavy snow, though tourists are still allowed to travel up to Batakundi from Naran. The administration added that if weather conditions improve, the Babusar Top route may reopen within the next two to three days, while all roads up to Batakundi remain open and safe for tourists.

Meanwhile, intermittent rain has been reported in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas, making the weather pleasant but noticeably colder. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the rain system is expected to continue for the next 24 to 36 hours across the twin cities and adjoining regions.

In Rawalpindi, light to moderate rain was reported in areas including Saddar, Chaklala, Shamsabad, and Murree Road, while in Islamabad, showers were recorded in Blue Area, F-7, F-8, and Tarnol. The rain led to a significant drop in temperature, and reports of water accumulation in low-lying areas were received from some parts of the cities.

According to the PMD, the ongoing rainfall combined with snowfall in northern areas may lead to an increase in river flows across the hilly regions. Weather experts say this is one of the first major winter spells, beneficial for wheat cultivation and other seasonal crops.

Authorities have advised tourists to exercise caution while traveling to snow-affected areas, use snow chains on vehicles, and follow safety instructions issued by local administrations and weather departments to avoid any untoward incidents.
