Electricity rates for additional units reduced; production costs expected to fall

Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari announced that the government has decided to allocate 7,000 megawatts of surplus electricity to the industrial and agricultural sectors to boost economic productivity. He said both sectors are the backbone of the economy and will now benefit from lower power tariffs on additional units consumed.

In a video message, Leghari stated that the price of additional electricity units for agricultural consumers has been reduced from Rs38 to Rs22.98 per unit, while industrial users will see their rates drop from Rs34 to Rs22.98 per unit. The move, he said, will significantly reduce the average cost of electricity for consumers.

Explaining the impact, the minister noted that if a farmer who previously used 100 units now consumes an additional 100 units, the average electricity cost will decrease by Rs7 per unit. Similarly, for industrial users consuming an additional 1,000 units, the average cost will fall by approximately Rs5 per unit.

Leghari added that the government had already lowered industrial tariffs earlier, and this further reduction will help stimulate local industries, enhance exports, and generate employment. He emphasized that the government is fulfilling its promises to the public and that improved electricity availability will play a vital role in stabilizing the national economy.

The energy minister expressed confidence that providing additional electricity to agriculture and industry at reduced rates will increase output and strengthen the overall economic outlook. He said the government aims to balance affordability and availability of power to achieve sustainable economic growth.
