Slimmer, lighter foldable expected with top-tier specs; tri-fold phone also in development

Samsung is once again pushing the boundaries of mobile innovation with the announcement of a special edition of its popular foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, set to launch in China on October 11.
Details shared on Samsung’s official Chinese website reveal a teaser image of the device, showcasing its book-like foldable design wrapped in a striking combination of black and red, framed in gold—hinting at a premium aesthetic.
While full specifications have yet to be officially confirmed, early reports suggest the W26 will be slightly thinner and lighter than previous models. It’s also expected to offer minor upgrades, including enhancements to the camera system and a possibly larger display. Last year, Samsung launched a special edition Galaxy Z Fold 6 in China with a refined display and a powerful 200MP main camera, setting the precedent for this upcoming release.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 W26 is expected to include the same high-end internal hardware as the standard model. This includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy (or a custom ‘Elite’ variant), 16GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of internal storage. On the software side, the phone is likely to run Android 16 with One UI 8.0. Notably, this model will be produced in limited quantities and will be exclusive to the Chinese market.
Meanwhile, Samsung is also working on a major new innovation: its first-ever tri-fold phone. The company is reportedly planning to unveil this device between October 31 and November 1, during the APEC Summit in South Korea. This tri-fold concept is expected to feature a unique design that folds in three parts, further expanding the display size while maintaining portability—marking another leap forward in foldable tech.
The launch of the W26 and the development of the tri-fold model are clear indicators of Samsung’s commitment to innovation in the foldable phone segment. These advances not only reinforce Samsung’s leadership in mobile design and engineering but also set new benchmarks for the industry.
Analysts see the W26 as a continuation of Samsung’s regional strategy of offering special editions tailored for the Chinese market, where premium and exclusive devices have a high consumer appeal. At the same time, the tri-fold project hints at the company’s future roadmap, aimed at redefining the limits of mobile screen technology.
As anticipation builds, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 W26 is poised to capture attention for its luxury design and high-performance internals, while the tri-fold phone could mark a new chapter in the evolution of foldables—from novelty to mainstream.
