ISLAMABAD: Monsoon rains continued to wreak havoc across Pakistan on Saturday, claiming at least 11 more lives and injuring 25 people in rain-related incidents, according to official disaster management data.
Among those killed were five men, two women and four children. Punjab recorded the highest number of fatalities with seven deaths, including three children, followed by Sindh with two deaths, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) reported one death each.
Of the 25 people injured, Punjab accounted for 20 cases, KP reported three and Sindh two. Children made up a significant portion of the injured, with 10 minors affected, alongside eight men and seven women.
Homes and Livestock Damaged
Heavy rainfall also caused widespread damage to homes and livestock. During the past 24 hours alone, 22 houses were damaged, including 17 partially damaged and five completely destroyed.
KP suffered the greatest structural losses with 15 damaged houses, while Punjab reported damage to seven homes. Eight livestock animals also perished due to rain-related incidents.
Death Toll Reaches 97 in One Month
The cumulative impact of the ongoing monsoon season has become increasingly severe. From June 26 to July 25, a total of 97 people have lost their lives and 297 others have been injured across Pakistan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded the highest number of fatalities with 52 deaths, followed by Punjab with 29, Azad Jammu and Kashmir with seven, Balochistan with six, while other regions reported smaller numbers.
Children have been among the worst affected, accounting for 43 of the total deaths and 104 of the injured during the one-month period.
Widespread Infrastructure Losses
Official figures show that 447 houses have been damaged nationwide since the onset of the monsoon season, including 338 partially damaged and 109 completely destroyed.
A total of 269 livestock animals have also been lost. Gilgit-Baltistan and KP reported the highest number of damaged houses, while KP alone accounted for 188 livestock deaths.
Authorities said rescue and relief operations remain underway as heavy monsoon rains continue to affect northern and western parts of the country.
Residents living in flood-prone, mountainous and low-lying areas have been urged to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, and follow safety advisories issued by provincial disaster management authorities as more rain is forecast in the coming days.
