COLUMBO: Pakistan Women began their ODI series against Sri Lanka with a convincing five-wicket victory after chasing down a target of 211 with seven overs to spare in the opening match in Hambantota on Thursday.
After restricting Sri Lanka Women to 210 for nine in their allotted 50 overs, Pakistan comfortably reached 211 for five in 43 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Opener Gull Feroza starred with the bat, scoring a match-winning 78 off 77 balls to anchor Pakistan’s successful chase. Her composed innings earned her the Player of the Match award and laid the foundation for Pakistan’s victory.
Earlier, Sri Lanka elected to bat first but were limited to 210 for nine by Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack. Pakistan’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings, preventing the hosts from posting a bigger total.
In reply, Pakistan’s batters paced the chase confidently, with Gull Feroza leading the way before the middle order guided the visitors across the finish line with 42 balls to spare.
The victory gives Pakistan an early advantage in the three-match ODI series and extends the team’s positive momentum ahead of the remaining fixtures.
