Heatwave grips Pakistan as temperatures soar to 46°C

BeNewz Report

ISLAMABAD: Mainly hot and dry weather is expected across most parts of Pakistan, while severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist in south Punjab, upper Sindh, and eastern and southern Balochistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The Met Office said isolated areas of upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and nearby hilly regions may receive rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms during the next 24 hours.

Weather officials said most parts of the country remained hot and dry over the past day, with southern districts experiencing extremely high temperatures.

The highest maximum temperatures recorded on Friday were 46 degrees Celsius in Sakrand and Dadu. Temperatures reached 45 degrees Celsius in Nokundi, Jacobabad, Mohenjo Daro, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Larkana.

The ongoing rise in temperatures has increased electricity demand in major cities and raised concerns over water shortages and heat-related illnesses. Health experts have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during daytime hours and increase water intake to prevent dehydration and heatstroke.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that very hot conditions may continue in southern and central regions over the coming days due to persistent high-pressure systems affecting the region.

Authorities have also urged provincial disaster management agencies and local administrations to remain alert and ensure emergency response measures amid intensifying heatwave conditions.
