Cambridge cancels leaked Maths paper, announces retake

BeNewz Report

ISLAMABAD: The Cambridge International Education has confirmed that an AS Level Mathematics paper was leaked before the examination and announced the cancellation of the affected paper along with a retake for impacted students.

According to a media statement issued by Cambridge, the AS Level Mathematics paper 9709/12, conducted on April 29, 2026, in Administrative Zones 3 and 4, was shared without authorization before the exam.

The institution said a detailed investigation concluded that the nature of the breach was serious enough that the paper could no longer be used for final grading purposes.

Cambridge stated that the affected paper would not be included in students’ final results, and a replacement examination would instead be conducted for candidates who sat the exam.

The board expressed regret over the situation for students, parents, and schools, acknowledging the hard work students had put into their exam preparation. It added that steps were being taken to ensure fair and accurate results.

According to Cambridge, investigations into the theft and unauthorized distribution of the paper are ongoing in coordination with law enforcement agencies and other relevant authorities to identify those responsible.

The institution warned that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in sharing or misusing examination material, including the possibility of permanent disqualification from all Cambridge qualifications.

In its statement, Cambridge noted that exam boards frequently receive reports of alleged paper leaks, most of which later prove to be false. However, in this case, the investigation confirmed that the compromised paper could not be used for grading.

Cambridge announced that the replacement examination for Mathematics 9709/12 will be held on June 9, 2026, as part of the June series schedule. The board clarified that students and schools would not be charged any additional fee for the retake, while the results release date of August 11, 2026, would remain unchanged.

The statement further said that schools would receive detailed instructions by May 15 regarding arrangements for the new examination, question paper distribution, withdrawal from the June 2026 series, and registration for the November 2026 exams.

Cambridge urged students to remain focused on their remaining examinations and assured them that all necessary measures were being taken to protect the integrity of the examination system and students’ interests.
