ISLAMABAD: A frustrated Pakistani consumer filed a lawsuit against JazzCash, the digital wallet of Pakistan’s largest telecom operator, Jazz, alleging unauthorized deduction of Rs 823 for a weekly mobile package that was never activated. Court documents show the amount was deducted immediately from the user’s account on February 19, 2026, but benefits like data, calls, or SMS were not delivered, causing financial and business losses.
After multiple failed attempts to resolve the issue through JazzCash support, the complainant approached the Consumer Court East, Islamabad, demanding Rs2 million in damages for monetary loss, breach of trust, and concerns over account security. The court has issued a formal notice requiring JazzCash’s written response.
This case highlights growing grievances against app-based services in Pakistan, including failed activations, hidden charges, poor refunds, and weak customer support. PTA records show that in December 2025, Jazz received 2,097 telecom complaints, the highest among operators, reflecting ongoing network and billing challenges.
Previous controversies, including a 2025 Auditor General report alleging Rs6.58 billion overcharges by Jazz, have fueled public skepticism despite PTA approvals. Social media complaints about automatic subscriptions and slow resolutions persist.
Jazz has not commented publicly on this lawsuit but maintains regulatory compliance and ongoing customer support improvements. Observers note that the court’s decision may set a precedent for resolving similar disputes in Pakistan’s fintech and telecom sectors.
