KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Karachi, conducted a successful intelligence-based operation on Thursday morning, intercepting a large consignment of smuggled mobile phones valued at approximately Rs. 62 million.
Acting on credible intelligence that a Mazda truck was transporting smuggled mobile phones from Balochistan to Karachi, ASO teams promptly deployed personnel in plain clothes at key locations across the city.
The suspect vehicle, a Mazda truck bearing registration number NAF-859, was stopped at the Hamdard Checkpost while approaching from Sakran Road. The truck was subsequently moved to the CPF Warehouse for a thorough search.
During the detailed inspection, authorities recovered 803 mobile phones of various brands—including iPhone, Vivo, Google Pixel, Infinix, and Spark—from specially designed concealed compartments within the vehicle.

The seized mobile phones are estimated to be worth Rs. 62 million, while the Mazda truck itself has an approximate value of Rs 25 million, taking the total value of the case to around Rs. 87 million.
The driver and his helper have been taken into custody, and an FIR is being registered under relevant legal provisions. Further investigations and legal proceedings are underway.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) stated that this operation underscores its firm resolve to curb smuggling and eliminate illicit trade activities in the country.
