A rare and inspiring achievement has come to light from the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, where a Sikh student has excelled in the Secondary School Certificate (9th class) Examination 2025. Onkar Singh, son of Mimpal Singh, a student of Crescent Model Higher Secondary School for Boys, Shadman Colony, Lahore, has secured an exceptional 550 out of 555 marks in the Science group.

What makes his success remarkable is not only the near-perfect total but also his extraordinary performance in subjects traditionally seen as challenging for non-Muslim students. Onkar scored 98 out of 100 in Islamiat and 49 out of 50 in the Translation of the Holy Quran, earning an A+ grade with a percentile of 98. This reflects not only his academic brilliance but also his dedication and respect for religious studies outside his own faith tradition.

In addition, Onkar achieved full marks in English (75/75), Mathematics (75/75), Physics (60/60), and Chemistry (60/60), along with 74/75 in Urdu and 59/60 in Biology. His aggregate percentile remained above 98 in all subjects, underscoring his consistency across the board.

Observers note that such results highlight the inclusivity of Pakistan’s education system, where students from minority communities, including Sikhs, Christians, and Hindus, take part in the same curriculum and often excel in subjects that require an extensive understanding of Islamic texts. Onkar’s achievement demonstrates both the capacity of minority students to adapt to the academic environment and the spirit of interfaith respect fostered within the education framework.

The Lahore Board’s record shows few precedents of Sikh students scoring this high in Islamic studies. His success recalls earlier cases where minority students, despite cultural and religious differences, proved that dedication and intellectual curiosity can bridge divides.

Teachers at Crescent Model School described Onkar as a hardworking and disciplined student whose commitment to learning transcends subject boundaries. By excelling in subjects ranging from sciences to Islamic studies, he has set an example for his peers and sent a powerful message about academic merit and inclusivity.

With Pakistan preparing to expand opportunities for minority students in higher education, Onkar Singh’s achievement stands as a model for others. His outstanding marks in Islamiat and Quranic translation are particularly symbolic, as they highlight how understanding across faiths can be cultivated through education.

As the results make headlines, Onkar’s performance not only adds to the pride of his family and school but also reflects positively on the broader Sikh community in Pakistan, who continue to contribute in multiple spheres of national life. His journey from 9th grade success now sets the stage for higher academic pursuits, where he is expected to continue as one of the brightest young minds of his generation.

Onkar Singh’s result is a reminder that excellence knows no boundaries of religion or community — it belongs to those who embrace knowledge with sincerity and hard work.
