Rs 1.8m fixed fees for MBBS & BDS private students

Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has fixed Rs 1.8 million for the students of MBBS and BDS for all sessions, said an official notification of the Council here on Monday.

However, the management of the private medical colleges if collected above and over the fixed amount of Rs 1.8 will be adjusted in the next fees as well, it added.

Under the chairmanship of former Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, a notification was issued by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) regarding the fees for private medical and dental colleges. This action followed the recommendations of the Medical Education Reform Committee.

The notification, which was issued by Dr. Shaista, the Registrar of PMDC, states that the decision to limit and fix tuition fees has been made under the powers granted by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DCJ) and in accordance with Section 20 (7) and (8) of the PMDC Act, 2022.

As per the new directive, the tuition fee for all sessions of the MBBS and BDS programs has been set at Rs 1.8 million, with the possibility of a 5% increase for the 2025 session.

Furthermore, the notification specifies that if any college has already charged students an amount exceeding the prescribed limit, the excess fee and related matters will either be refunded or adjusted in subsequent sessions.

In cases where institutions believe they have financial needs requiring higher fees, they are allowed to submit financial documentation to charge up to a maximum of Rs 2.5 million. This will be subject to approval by the PMDC after evaluating the justification provided.

The PMDC also announced that separate criteria for assessing such fee structures would be issued. All private medical and dental colleges are now required to comply with the capped or fixed fees. Colleges that fail to adhere to the tuition fee regulations will be held accountable for the consequences.
