ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially endorsed the establishment of a high-level search committee. This committee is tasked with identifying and recommending the Chairman and Members for the newly formed Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA).

This significant development operates under the purview of the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025, a legislative framework designed to streamline digital governance and foster innovation within the nation’s burgeoning IT sector. The move is being widely celebrated as a crucial milestone in the ongoing efforts to modernize public services and fortify the country’s technological infrastructure, making it a prominent talking point in Pakistan’s tech news landscape.

According to an official notification released by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, the search committee’s mandate includes shortlisting three candidates for each key position, including that of the Chairman, for the Prime Minister’s consideration. Furthermore, the committee will be responsible for proposing competitive salary structures and benefits packages for these top-tier appointments.

The committee will be convened by Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima. Other distinguished members include the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Secretaries from the Establishment Division, Cabinet Division, and IT Ministry, a member of the PRAL (Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited) Board, and Minister of State for Railways, Finance, and PMDU (Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit) Bilal Azhar Kayani.

This strategic initiative underscores the government’s steadfast commitment to accelerating digital innovation and institutional reform through transparent and merit-based government appointments. With this robust structure in place, the Pakistan Digital Authority is poised to play a transformative role in shaping national policies pertaining to cybersecurity, data protection, digital inclusion, and cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain.

The establishment of the PDA is also in alignment with global best practices, aiming to bolster investor confidence and attract foreign technology firms by ensuring a resilient regulatory environment. As Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif‘s latest initiatives continue to prioritize digital empowerment, this development is widely regarded as a cornerstone of his administration’s broader vision for a tech-driven economy. Analysts anticipate that once fully operational, the authority will effectively bridge critical gaps between public service delivery and digital infrastructure, thereby laying a robust foundation for a smarter and more interconnected Pakistan.
