PIA privatization to be completed in three months: Minister

Federal Minister for Privatization, Board of Investment, and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, in a special conversation regarding the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), stated that all concerns of the interested parties have been properly addressed. He further emphasized that the government has decided to incorporate changes based on the preferences of potential buyers to facilitate the airline’s sale.

To make PIA’s privatization more attractive, a new roadmap is being introduced, and it is expected that all stages of the process will be completed within the next three months. The minister expressed optimism about receiving stronger expressions of interest from investors, particularly as the recent resumption of PIA flights to Europe has created a more favorable and lucrative environment for privatization. Due to recent measures, he added, the national airline is now poised to regain profitability.

Abdul Aleem Khan also revealed that following the resumption of flights to Europe, PIA will begin operations to the UK within the next three months. Subsequently, in the next phase, flights to the United States and the Far East will also be restored. He highlighted that PIA remains the first choice for travel among Pakistan’s 240 million citizens and assured that with the implementation of positive reforms, the airline’s credibility will be restored, ultimately bringing it back to its peak performance.

The minister reaffirmed his confidence in PIA’s potential to become profitable once again. He expressed hope that this time, the privatization process would be more effective and feasible, positively impacting the broader privatization efforts in the country.
