ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has submitted a petition with NEPRA of reducing the base electricity tariff in Pakistan for the upcoming fiscal year. According to official documents, domestic consumers could get relief of up to Rs1.16 per unit in their monthly electric bills.
This potential electricity price reduction is expected to be implemented across the country, including Karachi, as part of the federal government’s efforts to provide relief amid the ongoing energy crisis in Pakistan.
The Power Division has submitted its proposal to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a uniform tariff across the country. NEPRA has scheduled a hearing on the matter for July 1, 2025, a key date to watch in the context of electricity prices in Pakistan 2025.
Proposed Tariff Reductions
According to the Power Division’s application, if approved, the maximum electricity tariff for domestic consumers will be reduced from Rs 48.84 to Rs 47.69 per unit.
For protected domestic consumers using 1 to 100 units, the tariff is likely to drop by Rs1.15, bringing the rate down to Rs10.54 per unit.
Similarly, Consumers using 101 to 200 protected units may see their tariff go down from Rs14.16 to Rs13.01 per unit.
Non-protected consumers using 1 to 100 units could get a reduction from Rs23.59 to Rs22.44 per unit.
The proposal also outlines the following reductions in monthly electricity rates:
101–200 units: Rs28.91 (↓ Rs1.16)
201–300 units: Rs33.10 (↓ Rs1.16)
301–400 units: Rs37.99 (↓ Rs1.16)
401–500 units: Rs40.22 (↓ Rs1.14)
501–600 units: Rs41.62 (↓ Rs1.16)
601–700 units: Rs42.76 (↓ Rs1.16)
Above 700 units: Rs47.69 (↓ Rs1.15)
However, it is important to note that taxes and surcharges will still be added to these rates, which may increase the final electricity bill.
Lifeline Consumers Remain Unaffected
For lifeline consumers, the tariff remains unchanged:
Up to 50 units/month: Rs3.95 per unit
51–100 units/month: Rs7.74 per unit
Earlier, NEPRA approved a reduction of around Rs1.50 per unit in the base power tariff for the upcoming fiscal year. This decision was sent to the federal government for final approval under the uniform tariff policy.

If these changes are approved, it could bring much-needed power tariff relief to millions of households across Pakistan struggling with high electricity bills and inflation.
