LAHORE: Pakistan delivered a commanding performance to crush Australia by 90 runs in the second T20 International at Gaddafi Stadium, sealing the three-match series with an unassailable 2-0 lead.
This victory marks Pakistan’s first T20I series win over Australia in seven years, showcasing their dominance in spin-friendly conditions and ending a long drought against the Aussies in the shortest format.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan posted a formidable 198 for 5 in their 20 overs – their highest T20I total against Australia. Captain Salman Ali Agha led from the front with a blistering 76 off 40 balls, including aggressive strokeplay that set the tone.
Usman Khan provided solid support with a 36-ball 53, while Saim Ayub contributed 23. Shadab Khan remained unbeaten on 28, adding crucial late runs. The innings featured strong partnerships and effective acceleration, putting Australia under immense pressure from the outset.

Australia’s bowlers struggled to contain the hosts. Cooper Connolly, Matthew Kuhnemann, Xavier Bartlett, Adam Zampa, and others each claimed one wicket, but none could stem the flow of runs on a pitch that offered grip for spinners later.
Chasing 199, Australia’s batting lineup collapsed spectacularly, bowled out for just 108 in 15.4 overs – their lowest total against Pakistan in T20Is and one of their heaviest defeats in the format.
Cameron Green top-scored with a quick 35 off 20 balls, and Matthew Short made 27, but the rest of the lineup faltered badly. Seven batters failed to reach double figures, highlighting the dominance of Pakistan’s spinners.
Pakistan’s spin attack was ruthless, claiming all 10 wickets. Abrar Ahmed and Shadab Khan each took 3 wickets – Abrar with economical figures of 3/14 and Shadab 3/26 – while Usman Tariq grabbed 2/16. Saim Ayub and Mohammad Nawaz picked up one each. The spinners exploited the turning track masterfully, dismantling the Australian middle and lower order with clever variations and sharp turn.
Before the match, Captain Salman Agha revealed three changes to the XI: Usman Tariq, Faheem Ashraf, and Naseem Shah came in, while Shaheen Shah Afridi, Salman Mirza (likely a typo for another player), and Fakhar Zaman were rested. The adjustments paid off handsomely, with the new inclusions contributing significantly.
This result follows Pakistan’s 22-run win in the series opener, underlining their preparation and form ahead of future challenges, including the T20 World Cup. Australia, fielding a changed lineup, struggled throughout and now face the prospect of avoiding a clean sweep in the final match.
Pakistan’s all-round display – powerful batting, disciplined bowling, and sharp fielding – has sent a strong message. With one game remaining, the hosts will aim for a 3-0 whitewash, while Australia seek redemption. The series has highlighted Pakistan’s growing prowess in home conditions and their ability to outplay a formidable opponent.
