The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has approved revised gas prices for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), though the changes require final approval from the federal government. A summary outlining the proposed adjustments has been forwarded for their consideration.
According to the decision of OGRA, SSGC consumers could see an average decrease of Rs 103.95 per Million British Thermal Units (MMBTU) in their gas bills. Conversely, OGRA has suggested an increase of Rs 116.90 per MMBTU for SNGPL consumers.
OGRA attributed the proposed hike for SNGPL primarily to the increased reliance on imported Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG). The regulatory body has specifically advised the federal government to deliberate on this aspect.
In a move towards equitable burden sharing, OGRA has also recommended the implementation of category-wise gas pricing. This approach aims to distribute the financial impact more fairly among various consumer segments, especially in light of the financial shortfall experienced during the current fiscal year.
The new gas tariffs will only be officially implemented once the federal government grants its approval, after which OGRA will issue a formal notification.
