Mystery shrouds over murder of IIUI’s female student in private hostel

A 23-year-old female student of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) was shot dead at a private hostel in the G-10/1 sector of the federal capital, police confirmed on Monday.

According to FIR, the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when an unidentified armed man gained access to the private hostel by scaling a wall. Once inside, he hid in the car porch for nearly an hour and a half, lying in wait.

The victim, identified as Iman, a resident of Mansehra and a master’s student in International Relations at IIUI, had stepped out into the courtyard for a walk. She spotted the intruder and raised an alarm by shouting “thief, thief” before running back to her room. The assailant chased her and barged into the room, where three of her roommates were present at the time.

According to the FIR registered by Ramna Police Station, the attacker signaled the girls to remain silent by gesturing with his finger. However, Iman continued to scream, prompting the assailant to pull out a pistol and shoot her. He then fled the scene by jumping the wall.

The injured student was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The police have registered a murder case based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother. Investigations are underway to determine whether the act was a targeted killing, a robbery attempt gone wrong, or motivated by personal enmity. Authorities have also sent CCTV footage of the incident to NADRA for facial identification of the suspect.

A large number of female students of all the University in the twin cities of Rawalpindi—Islamabad is residing in private hostels due to non-availability of seats in official hostels of the public universities, a female student, who luckily get admission in IIUI’s female hostel.

Another female student of Qaud-i-Azam University (QAU), who is also residing in private hostels in the vicinity of QAU told another aspect that faculty members of the University are running these private hostels. They are main hurdles in construction of new hostels inside the university.

Meanwhile, the International Islamic University issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the death of the student. In a press release quoted by APP, the university extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, clarifying that the incident did not occur on the university’s premises or within its official hostels.

The IIUI leadership voiced profound grief over the loss of a promising young student, emphasizing that the entire university community stands in mourning over this irreparable tragedy.
