Customs seizes Rs 910 million worth of crystal meth in D I Khan

BeNewz Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Customs has seized 15.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ICE) worth approximately Rs. 910 million from a passenger bus in Dera Ismail Khan during a major anti-smuggling operation. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Collector Customs (Enforcement), Peshawar, acting on credible intelligence received from the Deputy Collector Customs, D.I. Khan-II.

According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Customs Enforcement team intercepted a Daewoo passenger bus bearing registration number CAT-4488 at IP-JCP Aman Mela. Upon thorough inspection, the officials recovered 15 packets of high-grade narcotics concealed inside three specially designed power inverters installed within the bus.

The seized substance, identified as crystal methamphetamine of foreign origin, weighed a total of 15,350 grams, with a net weight of 15,200 grams after sampling. The narcotics are valued at approximately Rs. 910.2 million, while the intercepted bus is estimated at Rs. 15 million, bringing the total value of the case to around Rs. 925 million. The driver and conductor of the bus were taken into custody, and a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against them.

As the recovered drugs were being transported from IP-JCP Aman Mela to the State Warehouse, the Customs convoy came under attack by unidentified armed assailants, believed to be attempting to recover the seized narcotics. The attackers opened indiscriminate fire on the customs officials, who swiftly responded with courage and professionalism, ensuring the safety of both personnel and the confiscated drugs.

In response to the attack, Pakistan Army troops and police units immediately reached the scene and provided support to the Customs team. Security forces successfully escorted the Customs personnel and the seized contraband to the State Warehouse in D.I. Khan without any casualties or material loss.

An FBR spokesperson described the operation as a “significant success” in the ongoing national drive against narcotics trafficking and smuggling. The statement added that such coordinated actions reflect the strong resolve of Pakistan Customs and FBR to curb the illegal movement of drugs and protect Pakistan’s borders from organized smuggling networks.

Pakistan has intensified its crackdown on cross-border narcotics trade in recent months. Customs and law enforcement agencies have increased vigilance across key transit routes, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where smuggling networks often use passenger vehicles for illicit transportation.

The successful D.I. Khan seizure underscores FBR’s continued efforts to disrupt drug trafficking operations and reinforces Pakistan’s commitment to international anti-narcotics cooperation.
