Controversial scene in Pamaal triggers strong viewer backlash

LAHORE: A recent hospital scene between Malika and Raza in Green Entertainment’s drama Pamaal has sparked widespread criticism on social media for being “too bold” and “uncomfortable” for family viewing.

Green Entertainment’s prime-time drama Pamaal has landed in controversy after its latest episodes drew objections from viewers over an intimate hospital scene. Written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and directed by Khizer Idrees, the serial follows the troubled life of Malika, who grows up without a father and enters a marriage that fails to match her idealistic expectations. The show, produced by Tehreem Chaudhary, has so far aired twelve episodes, with the recent ones bringing the lead couple Malika and Raza together after a heated conflict.

In the episode, Malika visits Raza in the hospital, where she becomes emotional and hugs him tightly. The moment, aired without cuts or censorship, quickly spread across social media platforms and triggered a debate about the boundaries of intimacy in Pakistani television dramas.

Viewers took to social media to criticize the channel and actors for showing what many described as an “unnecessary bold scene.” One user wrote, “Someone please get Saba Qamar married.” Another commented, “Shame on the director for showing this much intimacy. They’ve started the same vulgarity as Indian or Hollywood dramas.”

Several viewers complained that content like this makes it difficult to watch such dramas with family members. One user said, “This scene was extremely uncomfortable. Thank God my father wasn’t sitting with me.” Another commented, “Saba Qamar often forgets she’s acting in a Pakistani drama, not a Bollywood movie.”

Some criticized Usman Mukhtar as well, saying they “didn’t expect him to be part of such a bold scene,” while others argued that Saba Qamar “has always pushed boundaries.”

The debate has placed Pamaal at the center of conversation, with many questioning whether Pakistani prime-time television is shifting its limits on-screen intimacy. Green Entertainment has not issued any official response regarding the controversy, while viewers continue to scrutinize what future episodes may bring.
