BAHAWALPUR: The Cholistan Desert is once again set to become a thrilling hub of speed, adrenaline, and cultural vibrancy as the 21st TDCP International Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally officially kicks off today, February 11, 2026.
Organized by the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), this iconic motorsport event will run until February 15, 2026, drawing racers from across Pakistan and beyond to conquer the vast, sandy expanses of southern Punjab.
The rally, now in its 21st edition since its inception in 2005, has grown into one of South Asia’s premier off-road competitions. This year’s event promises high-octane action over a challenging route spanning approximately 500 kilometers.
The track winds through the historic Cholistan Desert, passing near ancient forts such as Derawar, Dingarh, Marrot, Khan Garh, Bhijnot, Moujgarh, and Jamgarh, blending raw desert endurance with glimpses of Pakistan’s rich archaeological heritage.
More than 100 racers, including participants in the men’s and women’s categories, are competing. The event features multiple divisions: Stock (further split into A, B, C, D sub-categories), Prepared, and a dedicated Women’s category. Additional excitement comes from Dirt Bike, Quad Bike, and Truck races.
Qualifying rounds are scheduled for February 12 at Dilwash Stadium near Derawar, with main races intensifying from February 13 onward.

The opening ceremony took place in Bahawalpur, where Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen unveiled the trophy, with Bahawalpur Corps Commander Lt-Gen Muhammad Aqeel attending as chief guest. Around 120 drivers, including women competitors, are taking part, showcasing skill, strategy, and resilience against the unforgiving terrain of shifting dunes, fast tracks, and technical sections.
Authorities have implemented comprehensive security measures to ensure the safety of participants, spectators, and visitors. Over 2,000 police personnel are deployed across the event area, with strict protocols in place. Traffic management is being overseen by a dedicated DSP Traffic team supported by 400 officers to maintain smooth flow on access roads. In case of emergencies, mobile field hospitals and 4×4 ambulances stand ready on-site.
Beyond the roar of engines, the rally doubles as a major cultural festival. Traditional performances, folk music, dance, and desert cuisine will highlight Cholistan’s vibrant heritage, attracting domestic and international tourists. The event serves as a powerful platform to promote tourism in southern Punjab, spotlighting the region’s natural beauty, historical sites, and warm hospitality.
This year’s rally underscores Pakistan’s growing motorsport scene and the government’s push to position Cholistan as a premier adventure destination. With foolproof arrangements, extended routes, and a fusion of sport and culture, the 21st International Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally is poised to deliver unforgettable thrills while boosting local economy and pride.
As engines rev and dust clouds rise, the desert awaits its champions. Racing enthusiasts and adventure seekers are in for five days of pure excitement in the heart of Pakistan’s majestic Cholistan.
