ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (CCoSOEs), chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has approved comprehensive business plans for Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) and Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV).
The plans, submitted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, aim to address operational challenges and outline sustainable roadmaps for organizational growth, financial stability, and improved services.
The approved business plan for PBC includes several revenue-generating measures, such as enhanced program content and better signal quality, utilization of seven large unused concrete spaces and six open land tracts in various cities and installation of ATM booths and advertising billboards at strategic Radio Pakistan locations.
The Ministry stated that PBC is projected to achieve a financial break-even within two years after implementing the proposed plan.
For PTV, the business plan emphasizes digital expansion and content licensing, profitable marketing partnership and public-private collaboration and optimization of PTV’s properties to enhance operational efficiency and maximize revenue.
Additionally, the Committee noted that 1,232 out of 5,442 sanctioned posts at PTV have been abolished, contributing to significant cost savings.
The Committee stressed the importance of achieving operational excellence and urged timely execution of the proposed measures. It also recommended that both organizations leverage unused spaces, assets, and open lands through proactive engagement with the private sector, avoiding direct real estate ventures to maintain focus on their core functions as state broadcasters.
The CCoSOEs also approved the reconstitution of boards for key state enterprises like Karachi Tools, Dies and Mould Centre (KTDMC). Five private sector candidates and ex-officio directors were appointed for a three years term in KTDMC. Abdul Razzaq Gauhar was named as Chairman of the Board.
Similarly, the CCoSOEs also reconstituted Technology Upgradation and Skills Development Company (TUSDEC). Muhammad Noor ud Din Daud was selected as chairman of the Board as well.
The CCoSOEs reiterated its commitment to strengthening state-owned enterprises through enhanced governance, strategic reforms, and effective management practices.
